American Pre-emption and What It Means Part 1
Now, all kidding aside. I want the movie rights to this stuff.
The following will be a take on the most recent "terrorist" bust in Miami of 7 black men, (5 were Americans). They have been arrested and charged with terrorism.
Ist scene: The threat.
From Knight-Ridder
A close family friend and a distant cousin of Stanley Grant Phanor described the leader of the group, Narseal Batiste, as a "Moses-like figure" who would roam the streets in a cape or bathrobe, toting a crooked wooden cane and looking for young men to join his group.
From the NYT: "Neighbors said at least some of the men were in a religious group called the Seas of David that appeared to mix Christian and Muslim beliefs. The group wore uniforms bearing a Star of David and met for Bible study, prayer and martial arts in a one-story warehouse in the heart of the predominantly Haitian section of the impoverished Liberty City area."
Baltimore Sun:
Though the government said the defendants dreamed grand schemes, they actually had a hard time maintaining their warehouse headquarters. A neighbor said the structure had no water or electricity and was lit by candles.
"This is a very spiritual thing. It has nothing to do with terrorism," said Sylvain Plantin, cousin of one of the defendants.
Leo Casino, a musician who lives near the warehouse where some of the men were arrested Thursday, agreed. He said the suspects were vegetarians who fed the homeless.
The group didn't carry guns, Casino said, and "the neighbors weren't afraid of them."
From Alt.Muslim:
They passed their time selling African-American hair care products and, in the words of a group member, "train through the Bible... not only physical but mentally".
From CNN.com:
But when the group began practicing "witchcraft," she said, Lemorin left and moved to Atlanta about four months ago
Neighbors said the men, who wore turbans, caused no problems but seemed odd
"All you could do was just see their eyes. They had their whole head wrapped up. Just the eyes showing. And they were standing guard -- one here, one there -- like soldiers. Very quiet," one woman said
Have you got a good mental picture of what we're dealing with here? Honest to the Almighty this sounds like the script from that "Rocketman" movie or maybe even "Pootietang". You talk about some dazed and confused cats. Capes, robes, turbans, Star of David insignia but studied Bible, selling Ultrasheen on street, witchcraft, candles, no electricity.
While you still have the picture of these comic book characters fresh in your mind read this from FBI head Mueller by way of the Columbus Dispatch:
"Mueller told an audience in Cleveland that the suspects — five U.S. citizens, a legal immigrant from Haiti and a citizen of Haiti — reflected an emerging pattern of would-be terrorists who are "self-recruited, self-trained and self-executing."
He said this, without laughing, on Friday after the Thursday announcement of the arrests. More in Part 2.
