"According to the documents released today, the FBI initiated a classified investigation into the activities of the Thomas Merton Center, noting in a November 2002 memo that the center “holds daily leaflet distribution activities in downtown Pittsburgh and is currently focused on its opposition to the potential war on Iraq.” The synopsis of the document is provided to “report results of investigation on Pittsburgh anti-war activities.” The FBI memo points out that the Merton Center “is a left-wing organization advocating, among many political causes, pacifism.” ...... The ACLU has filed Freedom of Information Act requests in 20 states on behalf of more than 150 organizations and individuals. In response to these requests, the government has released documents that reveal monitoring and infiltration by the FBI and local law enforcement, targeting political, environmental, anti-war and faith-based groups."
Now I am fully cognizant of the fact that W. and his fierce force of Bushlidites are only listening and spying and collecting e-mails and trolling call numbers of al Qaeda. How do I know this? W. said so. And really now, come on, why would we suspect them of spying on ordinary Americans?

now just say that bush is ousted by the normal democratic system in place (the end of his term) and a democrat gets in the white house. are the behaviors of the fbi,cia,nsa,etc. going to change? or will it just be systemic by that time that every american is a suspect and that the freedoms of privacy aren't even considered, or that the majority of the citizenry even cares ("oooh,what celebrity is hand-a-buggering what other celebrity")? how could this shit be shut down now by citizens, mass mailings to congressmen?
First, I don't believe a Dem will get back in the White House in the forseeable future. Reference election 2000. In other words 2000 was not a fluke.
Secondly, 2006 is not 1968, not even close. What I see is what George Carlin calls the 'pussification' of America. The modern niceties of U.S. citizens lifestyles deceives us very subtly by addicting us. Distractions everywhere.
The boomers (of which I am one) have lost their backbone. Life is too good and no one wants to jeopardize that by taking chances.
Thirdly. The main problem as mentioned before is the media. If any change is going to come it must be the media. W and his Bushlidite ensemble knows this. I think citizens should take the media head on. E-mail and other electronic avalanches, specific boycotts of media and media products, protests at media shareholder meetings and other creative and radical actions. Not violence.
There really isn't much hope. See the committee vote for Hayden? All but 3 Dems voted for the guy who said he will do ANYTHING W says and is the guy who is running the NSA spying thing.
